Our Pastor

Pastor David A. Kind became campus pastor at ULC in April of 2001. He grew up in Wisconsin, but is an alumnus of the University of Minnesota (class of '92) and of the Chapel. After graduating from the U of M with a degree in history, Pr. Kind began studying for the Holy Ministry at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he received his MDiv degree.

Pastor KindWhile at seminary he did summer internships in Sandusky, Michigan, and vicared in Cleveland, Ohio, where he met his wife, Dana. He was ordained into the Holy Ministry in 1996 and called to be pastor of two rural congregations in southern Minnesota: First Lutheran Church in Waldorf and St. John's Lutheran Church in Minnesota Lake. In 1999 he was called back to the seminary as an admissions counselor to help recruit men for the Ministry. He served there until being called to be campus pastor here at ULC.

Pastor Kind serves on the Board of Directors for Higher Things (Dare to Be Lutheran!). He has also served at several Higher Things conferences as chaplain, plenary speaker, worship coordinator and sectional speaker. He is part of the leadership team for Christ On Campus, the campus ministry arm of HT; and serves as the regional LSF (Region 6) pastoral advisor.

Pastor and his wife Dana live in St. Francis, just north of the metro area. They have one child, Andrew, who you will undoubtedly see running around after church on Sunday mornings with the other kids.

Pastor's favorite theological topics include the ancient Church Fathers, liturgy and worship, Luther, and Church History. He authored the book About Our Liturgy to help teach people the history and meaning of the liturgy of the Lutheran Church. His sermons have been featured in the journals "Concordia Pulpit Resources" and "Logia". He is has also been featured a few times on the Issues Etc. Radio show and on the new HTRadio show.

Besides talking theology, Pastor enjoys making fine furniture, listening to good classic jazz, working on his yard, and going out for a few pints of ale once in a while. Despite living in Minnesota for so many years and having so many friends who are Vikings fans, Pr. Kind remains a diehard Green Bay Packer backer.
