Preaching Seminars

University Lutheran Chapel has a longstanding tradition of service to the Church at large. As part of this service, we sponsor events and study groups just for pastors.

Advent and Lenten workshops are held each year to help pastors prepare their midweek homily series. Led by outstanding theologians of the Lutheran Church, these workshops not only provide a framework for timely and meaningful seasonal preaching, but also help pastors to continue growing in their knowledge of exegesis, homiletics, and liturgics.

Lenten Preaching Seminar

University Lutheran Chapel was pleased to have Professor John Pless for this year's seminar. The sermon series presented borrows its title from the famious Luther hymn, “Dear Christians One and All Rejoice”, and focuses on themes found in the hymn and in selections from St. John's Gospel. If you are interested in receiving handouts and an audio recording, you may get them by sending ULC the regular registration fee of $45.

Patristics Study Group

University Lutheran Chapel also hosts a monthly study group for pastors at which we read and discuss the writings of the Early Church fathers. Patristics meets the third Monday of each month at 10:30 a.m., and provides a wonderful forum for the discussion of theological issues past and present. Participating pastors usually take turns leading each session. Guest speakers are occasionally invited to give a presentation in their field of study. Recent guest presenters have included Dr. Oliver Olsen and Dr. Jim Nestingen. Our current topic is The Ecumenical Councils.
