Session 2 The Letter to the Ephesians, paragraphs 1-10
In paragraph 7:1, what sort of people is Ignatius describing? How does this relate to Ignatius’ exhortation at the end of paragraph 8?
Ignatius applauds the Ephesians for not listening to false teachers. In what manner did they reject them? How do you suppose this played out in their church life? How does this mirror the practices of the church in Jerusalem in Acts 2?
How does Ignatius say that they should treat these “others” in paragraph 10? How does this flow out of Jesus’ own directives in the Sermon on the Mount? See also II John 1:10-11.
How does Ignatius describe the Holy Trinity in relation to the Church in paragraph 9?
How well developed is Early Church Christology according to what we see in Ignatius thus far?
What does Ignatius have to teach us about being church in these sections?
