University Lutheran Chapel is committed to providing real, orthodox, confessional Lutheran campus ministry at the University of Minnesota. In the past our mission has been heavily funded by the Minnesota South District of the LC-MS. While our partnership with the District continues on several levels - not the least of which is their providing our facilities to us at a reasonable rental rate - we receive very little program funding from the District (about 11% of our budget).
We need your help to ensure that the vital work of confessional Lutheran campus ministry not only continues, but grows and thrives.
Please keep University Lutheran Chapel in your prayers, and consider making ULC a part of your regular stewardship giving by contributing either to our Endowment Fund or to our General Operating Fund. You can contribute in the traditional way by mailing a donation to ULC (you can download a mail donation form at the right of this page) or by donating now online.
Contributions to the General Operating Fund help University Lutheran Chapel meet the current day to day expenses of carrying out the mission of proclaiming Christ at the University of Minnesota and other Twin Cities colleges and universities. Such expenses include materials for Bible studies and Sunday school, outreach advertising, mailings to students and congregations, salaries and compensation for the staff, general office expenses and equipment, etc. While not terribly exciting, these necessary expenses form the bulk of ULC's budget and enable to carry out our mission to students.
Contributions to the Endowment Fund help ULC build a solid foundation of future income, ensuring that this mission of bringing Christ to the campus and community will continue long into the future.
United Way
Did you know that you can designate University Lutheran Chapel as the recipient of your United Way contributions at work? It's true! While ULC is in no way connected to the United Way, we are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and are eligible to receive United Way funds that have been designated by donors to support the Chapel and its work.
The following is from the United Way Twin Cities website:
Petitions for use in the General Prayer of the Church:
That our Lord would grant His grace and blessing to all campus ministries of our Church that the Gospel may be faithfully proclaimed to students everywhere that those who are of Christ may be strengthened in their faith and knowledge; and that those who are not of Christ may by His Gospel be saved, let us pray to the Lord...
or
Grant your grace and blessing, Heavenly Father, upon the campus ministries of Your Church, that the Gospel may shine forth in our world’s institutions of higher learning; that Your children may be protected and strengthened in faith and knowledge; and that unbelievers may be converted to the true knowledge of faith in Christ Jesus. Lord in Your mercy...
Collect for Campus Ministry
O God, Source of all abiding knowledge and truth, who through Your Word and Spirit both enlightens the minds and sanctifies the lives of the faithful; we implore You to look with favor on the campus ministries of Your church, especially University Lutheran Chapel, and grant that they may faithfully proclaim Your Gospel on the campuses of our nation; that Your Word may shine both upon the minds and hearts of students everywhere and that these may be drawn by Your grace and calling to salvation through Christ Jesus our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Encouragement to Support the work of University Lutheran Chapel
"University Lutheran Chapel at the University of Minnesota has distinguished itself in a number of ways. First and foremost, it has been a clear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the midst of that multi-cultural and very secular setting. The faithful confession of Pastors John Pless and David Kind has stood out in an environment where the Gospel is so desperately needed. Further, University Lutheran Chapel has been a wonderful incubator for pre-seminary students. The graduates of that parish have brought unique depth and breadth of abilities to our theological training. I would, therefore, encourage wholehearted support of the University Lutheran Chapel with your prayers, participation, and your gifts as well."
"When my daughter decided to go to the University of Minnesota, I knew she was going into the lion's den of anti-Christian ideas and lifestyles. And yet, I know she would get the spiritual care from ULC that would make her even stronger in her faith. Now she is graduating as a battle-hardened confessionally-minded Lutheran, who managed to get a good education both intellectually and spiritually."
